Founded in 1808, Clarence Hollow is the oldest town in Erie County NY. (Founded 4 years before Buffalo, NY.) The Great Pumpkin Festival and Scarecrow Festival in September and October. Clarence Hollow free Summer Orchestra Concerts in July and August. Clarence Biking and Hiking Trails, between Clarence Hollow and Akron NY, and Akron and Clarence Center offer, about 18 miles of trails. Clarence Historical Museum, tour the original workshop where Clarence resident and inventor Wilson Greatbatch invented the implantable cardiac pacemaker. Tillman Road Wildlife Sanctuary Management Area, a self-guided nature walk, where deer, Canada geese, ducks, herons, and hawks are residents. Escarpment Sanctuary – a trail off Greiner Rd. provides a short walk into the town’s geologic past. The Onondaga Escarpment- was the edge of an ancient lake. The cliff is 50-70 feet high and is composed of layers of limestone and dolomite .
