Spectacular Niagara Falls are exciting all seasons. Summer, the busiest, bright sunshine and Niagara’s mist make rainbows regular sights. In the Winter, cold temperatures transform Niagara’s mist into a crystallized blanket that covers the trees, rocks, and buildings, transforming the area into a winter wonderland.
The falls are separated into three cataracts separated by islands. Horseshoe Falls on the Canadian side is the widest. Bridal Veil, the middle and smallest, and the American Falls, the highest. Excellent views of the river and falls are available from several vantage points. Each night the falls are illuminated for 2.5 to 3.5 hours after dusk.
One of the most popular attractions, Maid of the Mist boats pass directly in front of the falls and enter the Horseshoe Basin. Trips depart daily beginning at 9:00 Memorial Day through about mid October.
Goat Island, in the Niagara River, separates the Canadian and American Falls, offers spectacular views from the edge of both falls. Niagara Adventure Theater, in the visitors center presents “Niagara: Legends of Adventure,” a 30-minute film telling the story of legends, explorers and daredevils.
Cave of the Winds Trip on Goat Island, take an elevator ride down 175 feet to the base of Bridal Veil Falls. After donning a souvenir raincoat and footwear, visitors are guided to the Hurricane Deck, just 20 feet from the roaring Bridal Falls, where a good dousing can be expected. This guided walking your will allow you to feel and experience the power of Niagara Falls just feet from the pounding waters.
Aquarium of Niagara has more than 1500 aquatic animals ranging from the Great Lakes to the coral reefs and is home to a large collection of Great Lakes fish. Open year round, daily from 9:00 am.
Prospect Point Observation Tower, next to the American Falls in Prospect Point, is a 260-foot structure that rises above the cliffs. Stairs lead from the tower to the Crow’s Nest, an observation area beside the falls. Four elevators descend into the gorge, permitting access to the base of the falls and Maid of the Mist boats, which board near the landing.
