Clarence Center NY, founded 1829, offers some historic ‘Gems’ to visit, and is only 5 miles from the Asa Ransom House. These gems include: The Perfect Gift & Boutique, Clarence Center Coffee Co. & Cafe, The Hen House ll Le Poulaller, and Gertie’s Restaurant, among others.
The Perfect Gift, located in the most impressive 1872 Eshelman Building, is listed on the National Historic Register, and was once considered the tallest building of its kind outside of the city of Buffalo. The building at three stories high, has always been a general store in some capacity, and today is home to a unique gift shop and boutique, the Perfect Gift. Some historic factors of interest is the flooring and much of the woodwork in the building is original from 1872, and the push latter system is a replica of what once existed here. The building bricks were made by the Eshelman family – burnt in their own brick oven kiln. Deborah, the Perfect Gifts proprietor, offers a vast variety of items and unique gifts, which can be viewed at www.theperfectgiftbuffalo.com
The Clarence Center Coffee Co. & Cafe, kiddie corner across the street from the Eshelman building, features fresh-baked goods, locally crafted beers, fine wine selection, and a menu including vegan and gluten-free food. Breakfast and lunch are served daily, with dinner offered Tuesday through Saturday. Tuesday features an open mike night, Friday and Saturday featuring live music from 8 to 11, often with some talented local artists. Multi award winner of the Taste of Buffalo, winner of the Clarence “Silver Spoon” award and best entrée award. We have enjoyed their good food and very relaxing atmosphere and personable staff. The Hen House ll Le Poulailler at 5961 Goodrich road, just a few steps done the street, features unique gifts, antiques, art and furniture. Linda (a Gem herself) offers different vintage items that will match with any decor. Some of our treasures here at Asa Ransom House and at home have come from Linda’s unique shop. Be sure to ask if you can’t find that perfect match, she may have it hidden at her other location on Salt Road in Clarence. For a good idea of Linda’s treasures see the multiple pictures at HenHouseAntiques Clarence NY
Gertie’s restaurant is next to the Perfect Gift, and offers modern comfort food from her fine scratch kitchen with dining offered both inside and on the patio. Gertie’s has an impressive menu that can be viewed at www.GertiesRestaurant.com This restaurant is very popular, so reservations are recommended.
