Some of our Favorite Things to do in Buffalo in the Winter

Beaver Meadow Audubon Center

Explore the trails at the Beaver Meadow Audubon Center! This nature preserve is about 45 minutes away from Asa Ransom House. It stretches out over 324 acres and features everything from meadows to wetlands. It’s most known for its eight miles of well-maintained trails. There’s nothing like crunching through white snow while exploring the gorgeous Upstate New York terrain. If you don’t have a pair of snowshoes or don’t want to travel with them, there are pairs available to rent at the preserve.

Chestnut Ridge Park

Grab your sled and head over to Chestnut Ridge Park! While this gorgeous park has plenty of opportunities for a variety of winter sports, the onsite toboggan chutes and sled hill are what has made this park iconic. The main hill is more than 600 feet long, though there are other hills that can be utilized if you prefer snowboarding. This is also a great park for cross-country skiing or snowshoeing.

The iconic Canalside provides plenty of fun things to do in Buffalo in the winter. Stop by The Ice at Canalside, a public skating rink that is sure to provide a fun day. Admission to the rink is $6 and skate rentals are just $4. If you’ve never skated before or you’re a little rusty, you can rent ice bikes for $12 per half hour. Never heard of ice bikes? That’s because these unique bikes, which allow you to pedal and steer on the ice as if you were on a regular bike, were designed and manufactured locally. This is the definition of a true Buffalo experience: you can’t find these anywhere else! If you’re feeling comfortable on a pair of skates, then rent a curling lane and give this winter sport a try! Canalside is a sure-fire way to have a fun winter day!
