Frank Lloyd Wright’s Darwin Martin House, a six structure complex, located in the historic Parkside neighborhood of Buffalo N.Y. The multi-structure estate (1903-05) that Frank Lloyd Wright designed for Darwin D. Martin, is a masterpiece of 20th century architecture. It is widely considered one of Wright’s finest Prairie houses.
The Darwin Martin House Tour will introduce visitors to Frank Lloyd Wright’s innovative design concepts that defined his Prairie-style ideal. A certified docent will lead guests through the primary rooms of the main Martin House, the pergola, conservatory, and exterior spaces, and the pioneering methods of construction. Explore the home’s beauty described as a “domestic symphony,” which includes prime examples of Wright-designed furniture, art glass, and light fixtures.
Two-hour and One-Hour Tours of the Darwin Martin House are available, with the one-hour tour wheelchair accessible. Reservations are strongly recommended due to the limited space on each guided tour. www.darwinmartinhouse.org
In 1927, Frank Lloyd Wright designed a unique fuel filling station and intended to place it on the corner of Michigan Avenue and Cherry Street in Buffalo. The station was never built. But the Filling Station was built in 2013, one-of-a-kind installation housed in a glass enclosure attached to the main hall at the Pierce-Arrow Buffalo Transportation Museum. This exhibit compliments the automobile, motorcycles and bicycles on display. www.pierce-arrow.com
